10 Days of Gluten Free: Day 5

Welcome to Day 5 of 10 Days of Gluten Free. Here’s today’s frugal tip:

Be open to purchasing online! While a brick and mortar store sometimes has the best prices, this is not always the case. There are many online stores that carry specialty organic and gluten-free foods for much less than retail. For example:

Vitacost discounts their items approximately 15-70% off of retail every day. In addition, shipping is free on orders over $49. They also offer a $10 Refer-A-Friend free credit for all new customers.

Amazon can be a great place to purchase items in bulk that you use often. Amazon’s prices change often, so keeping on top of them can be a challenge. I have put together an “Amazon Gluten-Free Price List”, which I update once weekly. This allows you to quickly scroll through an alphabetical list and get a “price to compare” before heading to the grocery store. You may find that with the savings on gas and time, not to mention the lower price of the item for buying in bulk, that you save yourself a boatload of money, just by buying online.

    Thanks for the helpful tips.

  2. This is a great tip. I have ordered from Vitacost once, but I’m not in the habit of checking there yet. I have used Amazon’s subscribe and save program to save more on items there. The subscribe part can always be modified. Your doing a great job with these tips, Janelle!

  3. Bob orders our vitamins from Vitacost and always checks to see if I need any staples like sorghum flour or agave nectar. The prices are usually good and it helps get our order up to qualify for free or reduced shipping.

  4. Angel R. says:

Love to shop online for our GF goods. Not as frustrating as trying to find stuff in our local grocery stores.
