10 Days of Gluten Free: Day 9

Welcome to Day 9 of 10 Days of Gluten Free. Here’s today’s frugal tip:

Use a menu plan! Preparing ahead of time is key to saving money, especially when eating a restrictive diet. This helps you know what you need to shop for, and helps you get the best deal.  I try to plan my meals a week ahead of time using what I have on hand in my freezer and pantry, and incorporating what is on sale at my local grocery store. If planning this way seems overwhelming to you, you could check out a meal planning service like eMeals, which offers a gluten-free menu plan. It is a simple plan with a once-weekly shopping list, and gives you lots of variety and nutrition.

  4. Very good advice, but I do most of my cooking out of our freezer. I do alot of freezing and canning during the summer. We also buy some of our meat by the quarter or half.

  5. I tend to plan only a day or two at a time. I try to use what we have and buy according to sales and coupons most of the time. I do like my fresh fruits and veggies so we shop the farmer’s market often. In fact, I pulled venison and fish out of the freezer this morning and only bought fresh fruit today.

  6. I sometimes plan ahead, like cooking something for dinner one night and using the leftovers the next night in a different meal, or cooking for several nights’ dinners.

  7. Menu planning saves an extreme amount of money! However be warned that sometimes when you menu plan and things change it can be frustrating! :)
